On Thursday September 12, 2019 at approximately 8:30 a.m. PST we received a phone call from our daughter, who lives in Washington, D.C., telling us to look up a plane crash in Bowie, MD. She proceeded to tell us that her boyfriend, Ryan McClain, 29, of Washington, DC and his passenger Eric Diprospero, 31, of Baltimore, MD were involved in an accident where a small fixed-wing aircraft had just hit the car they were driving down Route 50 in Bowie, MD [CBS 13 WJZ Baltimore] en route to a meeting.

While the cause of the accident is still to be determined initial reports indicate that the small aircraft, piloted by Julius Tolson Jr., 58, of Laurel, MD along with his passenger, Michael Garrah, 57, of Columbia, Md., were attempting to take-off from Freeway Airport [WBALTV11]

when I came to it was like coming out of a dream and I didn’t understand what was going on

Ryan told me, “I don’t really remember the accident,” which sheared off the left wing of the aircraft as it smashed into the complete front and upper portion of the car. Ryan also said, “I blacked out for about 5-10 minutes after the crash and when I came to it was like coming out of a dream and I didn’t understand what was going on.”

I’m just really happy to be alive and still processing all of it, looking a the car it’s incredible we both were able to walk away.

No life threatening injuries were sustained by the parties involved, however, Ryan did suffer a compression fracture to his spine which requires him to wear a brace for the next 6-8 weeks. I asked Ryan for any final thoughts and he said, “I’m just really happy to be alive and still processing all of it, looking at the car it’s incredible we both were able to walk away.”
